Artists are seekers. First of all, for themselves, but also literally – on the street. In that case, they are more inspired finders (because they may not have been searching deliberately). When they take their find back to the studio, a completely different process of searching and finding takes place.

This exhibition is about the art of appropriating and giving new meanings to something that someone else would simply pass by. Working with everyday objects, which are elevated to art in a museum environment, started with the objet trouvé and the readymade at the beginning of the last century, and has since taken off enormously.

Joanneke Meester, Emo Verkerk, Driessens & van den Baar, Jessica Assmann Zwaanswijk, Piet Zwaanswijk, Sarah van Sonsbeeck and Mari Stoel (also guest curator) were directly inspired by what they encountered on the street. This led to very diverse work because of their different motivations and approaches.
