Verzwinden

As the result of a research project funded by Amarte Fonds, Mondriaan Fonds and Cultuur Fonds we have developed a new collection of art works with wool felt and UV light: “Verzwinden”
“Verzwinden” started as a research, resulting in a continuously growing collection of artworks. The works are created by exposing wool felt to UV light. The sun is the source, which ensures the exposure of contact negatives on wool felt, a process that takes weeks. Global warming causes the disappearance of nature and people from their usual habitats. The images we make, resulting from a compiled database of nature and from the daily news, are the result of the search for our role in these major events, which we as humans cause and can also (partly) solve. What is the meaning and relevance of art in these turbulent times? How do we give shape to what occupies us?
The artworks are soft, created by an aggressive form of bleaching by UV and they are carriers of images that show the consequences of the direct influence of human choices. The attractive softness and colours tempt us to look at what has been called off and to ask ourselves how we should proceed.
