Christoffelkruid

Christoffelkruid  is one of the artworks of the Series Herbarium, in which plants have been chosen that have (almost) been extincted.

The Herbarium collection is a growing collection of felt plants like dried plants behind glass, preserved, as in a traditional herbarium. The collection contains plants that are (almost) extinct. An investigation into this plants started in 2023. A collection is created that will be expanded in the coming years. The choice of certain plants is linked to the travels that Driessens & van den Baar in their lives have made and to plants they have seen in the past and which have now disappeared. The Herbarium suggests a scientific authenticity, but that is not necessarily the case. Some plants have been scaled up, such as the Edelweiß that in reality is not larger than 3 cm in size. And some are made monochrome, such as the blue Gentian.
The wool felt has a strong association with the drying of plants and flowers. The monumental frames make the works museum-like, or belonging to one scientific archive.
