The picture of a Syrian mass grave appears in the papers in May 2013,
two hundreds years after Goya has painted the executions of the Spanisch resistance.
In the past two hundred years nothing has really changed, In those days Goya was the reporter, now every day we see the same pictures in the papers or on the internet. What can still be the meaning of art in relation to these themes ?  The work has been painted with epoxy resin and looks like a colorfull pattern of elements of textile. Only secondarily the real horror becomes visible.

De foto van een Syrisch massagraf verschijnt in Mei 2013 in de krant, tweehonderd jaar nadat Goya de executies van de Spaanse opstandelingen schilderde. In de afgelopen tweehonderd jaar is er niets veranderd. Toen was Goya de verslaggever, nu verschijnen dagelijks fotos in kranten en op internet. Wat kan de huidige schilderkunst nog betekenen bij dit soort thema’s? Het werk is geschilderd met epoxyhars en verschijnt als een kleurrijk patroon van textiel elementen. Pas in tweede instantie is het werkelijke drama zichtbaar.
